renewing old video games
I recently bought a pristine Kirby's Adventure off eBay and decided to clean the rest of my video game collection to match. After a few rounds of scrubbing the contacts, removing stickers and residue, and dissolving "permanent" marker writing, my games are working noticably better and looking Very Good or even Like New instead of just Acceptable.
I keep retyping paragraphs and deleting them because I babble too much, and y'all probably don't care except that Ree is a happy bean. I am happy, though. My games collection feels newer and more mine now.

book meme
These are the top 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing's users. As in, they sit on the shelf to make you look smart or well-rounded. Bold the ones you've read, italicize the ones you own but have not read, and strike through the books that I probably wouldn't read if you bought me a copy and then hit me with a stick.
(Book List)
Ree's note: I fully intend to read every book I've bought. I don't buy books as coffee table decor. My problem that is I've been video gaming a lot more lately, so my reading time has decreased but my book buying habits haven't. I'll get around them. Eventually. I hope.

buying happiness
I have been trying to buy happiness on eBay. It's not in any item description, so you have to look for things you think will make you happy. It's hard to be right about this. I don't think I was, but I also didn't realise that my bids were a search for happiness. It's hard to find what you're really looking for when you don't even know that you're looking.
I have not overrun my predetermined budget, and I think the items I won were worth their prices, but I need to not do that again. The problems that trouble me will not be fixed by consuming idle entertainments, however well-made or budget-priced. Maybe other problems can be so solved, but for me that route leads only to temporary escape and a loop back to the very problems I wanted to avoid.
Also, WTF is up with every single SNES RPG costing beaucoup bucks? It's crazy. I've actually turned to digging up NES RPGs instead, just because I can actually afford the little grey blighters. (Crystalis is win. Its Game Boy Colour port, not so much.)
Maybe I am too poor (or cheap) to buy happiness. I guess that means I find or build it, instead.

Eternal Darkness
I recently, abruptly realised that I need to get me a GameCube and my own copy of Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. Someday my brother and I probably won't be sharing living space, and when that happens I will still crave that game. It has a wonderful, evocative title, a female lead voiced by Jennifer Hale (actually all the voicing is absolutely fantastic, but I have a soft spot for Ms. Hale and for female leads), and the ability to enchant a shotgun for faster zombie-killing action - there is nothing here that is not to love. It's basically like if Lovecraft had Poe's writing skills, or if Poe wrote about warring Elder Gods, and it all got turned into the best video game that premise could produce. And then added the Insanity Effects. This game plays you.
I like it. A lot. I hadn't given it much thought until the thought occurred that, someday, I would not have ready access to this game of beauty. That cannot be.
Must try to get a Cube coloured different to the bro's so we can easily tell them apart. Also WaveBirds because I can trip on my own bare feet. (I have actually done this on many occasions.) No huge rush, because neither of us is planning to leave yet, but it's something to keep in mind.
