GenderAnalyzer

GenderAnalyzer thinks I'm a man. Everything of mine that I've pointed it to, it says was written by a man - except for one short story I wrote years ago, which is supposed to sound as though a man wrote it! Oh, and it thinks all my mopey poetry is girly, but aside from those two exceptions, apparently my writing is mannish. I want to see its algorithms. I'm betting it looks for a few specific words and ignores the rest. But which words?

Ha, ha! I think you and your respondents are probaly right, the program probably looks for certain phrases, adjectives or sentence structures. It would really be interesting to compare the materials that people have presented and see, side by side, what the analysis said. I suspect the emporer would have no clothes after that!

Lol, I've done things like this before, and they do indeed have interesting results. My creative writing and most of my personal posts came out as female, but my more formal/serious posts came out as male. I think it looks for things like flowery adjectives, or very rigid matter-of-fact phrases, and such like that, to decide gender. Not the most fair measurement, though. Oh well. It's good for some amusement.
