rediscoveries

I have been trawling through the mud that is my website. It's accumulated many layers over the years. Even I don't know anymore what's in some directories. I decided I should find out.

And found this. She could still taste the cream. That's going to ring a bell with a few people. They know exactly why my face is very, very warm right now. Oh my.

It wasn't even in a hidden directory! Anybody could have wandered in. Must password-protect. Or move out of /public_html/ anyway. How embarrassing.

(The quote is from a story I wrote years ago. It... it wasn't terrible, but it was remarkably derivative and more than a little high-strung.)

Santa hat

Turns out I still have my Santa hat icon uploaded from last year (or before). Woohoo! Fuzzy hat FTW!

Well first off, it makes me feel fuzzy inside to see a source outside my state use "SD" to mean "South Dakota."

Second, what on Earth does South Dakota hold for a British actor/athlete? What, did he get lost on his way to the Corn Palace? (Mitchell, SD, "world's only corn palace." Yes, Mitchell, because nobody else wanted one.)

I oughtn't speak like that. Vinnie Jones might hit me.

And FTW, evidently the fight started when someone asked Jones if he was, and I quote, that guy from X-Men. I could not make up this much crazy if you paid me. Dude. Dude. I'm not entirely convinced it's not a hoax.

Tabulas Blogger API bug?

(Feel free to ignore this entry if it's all Greek to you.)

Has anybody else noticed blank entries when posting using the Blogger API? I found a browser widget that supports only the Blogger API. It posts correctly to other sites, but when I try to post to Tabulas, it posts an entry with the right title but no entry text.

Tabulas also supports the MetaWeblog API and that seems to still be working fine. Yay! MetaWeblog is better anyway. Unfortunately, the widget I found doesn't support it.

The reason I'm asking instead of filing a bug report is that my browser widget wasn't built to post to Tabulas at all, just to WordPress. I had to hack it a bit to let me post to Tabulas, so it's possible that the problem is entirely my own fault. But I've tried posting to other sites, even with my changes intact, and so far only Tabulas has a problem. I have some other blogging software that I would be testing against Tabulas' Blogger API, but they're on a computer that's in storage. Nuts.

So I ask you: have you noticed this problem too?

sick day

My throat feels all windburnt and raw inside, and I can't help coughing every so often. I am rocking the throat spray (much thanks for Chloraseptic!), sheltered from the wind and snow. I'll be fine.

Except I'm supposed to be singing tomorrow night. Poo.

However, I have it on good authority that singing or no singing, there will still be presents.  xmas.gif  So there's that.

gift art of Mai character

I got artwork for Christmas (Eve)! Mutt drew Mai for me - here's the picture and here's Mutt's comments on it.

"On the -1st day of Christmas, my Sesha gave to me: a calico White Wolf kitty!" I think that's how the song goes. Right? :D

Merry Christmas!

It is totally Christmas in Oceania and that means I get to wish folks a merry Christmastide! I try to wish a happy winter solstice every year, too; this year I missed. Sorry folks. I've had a raging sore throat and it's kept me off my game. Hope you had a good one.

Whatever holidays you do or don't celebrate this time of year, I hope you have a good day and that your holiday season brings/brought only a minimum of stress.

the gift that stops giving

For Christmas, I gave my brother TJ a copy of Donkey Kong Country for Super Nintendo. We used to play it as kids. I sucked (and still do) but he's awesome, and I knew he owned an SNES again. I wasn't sure if he would like playing DKC again though.

He opened it around 10 or 11 on Christmas morning and started a new file.

Before midnight, he beat the game on that save file. Yeah. The entire game, start to finish, about 12 hours - including a trip out of state during those 12 hours! In-game, he spent something like 2.5 hours.

I think he liked it. :D
