gift art of Mai character

I got artwork for Christmas (Eve)! Mutt drew Mai for me - here's the picture and here's Mutt's comments on it.

"On the -1st day of Christmas, my Sesha gave to me: a calico White Wolf kitty!" I think that's how the song goes. Right? :D

stuff

Can't concentrate for shit. As of this morning, I am finally caught up with last week's classes. I haven't even touched this week's and I have quizzes due Sunday night. My brother Squirt is here for the weekend, wanting to screw around and hang out. Hang on a sec, I'm having a vision of the future: my grades are about to get flushed. Woosh.

For some stupid reason, reading (something I've always loved and done well) is frustrating right now but computers are sane and sensible. I managed to port a Wordpress theme to Tabulas, on a whim. It was rocky at first (the Tabulas nav bar dislodged the alignments and stuff) but got consistently easier once I got going. It's basically done now, though I think I may put the main site nav links in the header instead of sidebar. I keep looking for them in the header and getting confused when they're not there, even though I'm the one who moved them. Yup, I'm on the ball today.

I joined Naked Day this year with most of my sites (pokitty.com, my Tabulas, and my LJ), which was educational. I found a few niggles in my code that I'd forgotten about while they had CSS to cover their shame. Once those became public for all visitors, I got ansty and ended up fixing them live just to have them gone. There are still some spots that need a go-over and some weeding out of unused code, but for the most part I'm happy with my HTML. That was a nice pick me up. Still need to take out a presentational table or two, but I have a pretty good idea how to do that so it should go rather smoothly. I'm not going to worry about the source code for my LJ as that's a site theme. Also I am lazy and don't care enough. If I take the time to code a page myself, though, I should damn well take the time to do it well. (My ported WP theme validates XHTML and CSS, though I'm not sure how strict. The original theme had the validation buttons and I refused to keep them up without validating.)

My brain is just not on. Mleh.

diiiiiiiiiie

I think I am going to kill my webhost. Yesterday I upgraded forum software. Everything went smoothly. I followed the upgrade instruction step-by-step with the utmost care. I had to edit one of the files so keep a modification I had made (actually, to improve it and to make it work with upgraded security). I am positive everything worked wonderfully then -- I distinctly recall referring to a specific test post over and over, as the post reflected the changes I made in the script and let me know that everything progressed as desired.

Today I checked something else and found the entire forum blank. The database is has all the data, I haven't changed the scripts since last they worked, but every section of the board returns "no topics" and no content even though it's right in the damned database.

Hey! Isn't this exactly what happened with the last forum suite I tried, the last time I upgraded that?

Why yes! Yes it is! Isn't that motherfucking wonderful?

KIIIILL.

At least I once again backed up everything prior to the upgraded. Managed a successful downgrade to the original version using those files, but goddamn.

KIIIIIIIIIIIIILL.

I's proud of me. I got a "file not found" page set up for my Dink site, and a contact form that's not remotely hosted too. I tried for a counter but didn't get it work and I already have one set up so MEH.

I have had a list of things to do with that site for awhile now. I finally got it done. And it only took me... hang on, gotta do the hard maths here. *counts fingers and toes* A little over six months from when I first noted the stuff I should do!

Wait.

backups

By all things wise and mighty, I hate command-line FTP. Ewwww.

However, I braved it for the sake of getting the MoonBurnt backup online, because I'm giving like that. (Actually, because it was a challenge that didn't involve screaming at Norton AntiVirus, but "giving" sounds better.)

Trying to remember what else I need to back -- augh, blog. Duh. I missed my monthly LJ backup last week so that's overdue and I can backup my Tabulas again as well. Xanga likes to keep backups locked away from free users, much like EZ Board, because they are giving like that. *eyeroll*

*counts* AIM buddy list, del.icio.us bookmarks, main website -- got all that. I could backup my MemeBot site if I care. Should at least save the data about the things I've done that caused 500 server errors, for reference. All in all though, I'm sitting pretty well, I think.

I will never forget when I thought I'd lost an image a friend made me for years ago -- man, over five years ago now, five and a half even? Wow. I remember it so clearly. I cried. I screamed and wailed and keened. It turned up in my email later (for which I am extremely and eternally grateful) but after that, I got paranoid about backups. There's just so much I would hate to lose.

And with that little soapbox bit over, I should actually check my email or something remotely useful.
